Miracle of San Zanobi

As part of the Florens 2010 event, on Saturday 13th November part of Piazza del Duomo was converted into a lawn with fresh turf. There is also a tree “growing” from the centre of the piazza to the North of the Baptistry recreating the miracle of San Zanobi. In the video, you can also see a copy of Michelangelo’s David, made specifically for the event standing outside the Duomo. This hollow copy is covered in marble dust taken from the mines of Carrara from where the marble block used for the original was taken.

The first part of the Florens 2010 event had David On The Duomo and from his position in front of the Duomo itself, he will move in a procession to Piazza Signoria, the location of the earlier, permanent copy.

San Zanobi was the first Bishop pf Florence and though his feast day is in May, the grass and tree effect is sufficiently spectacular to warrant some flexibility in the calendar. The Saint’s body is interred in Santa Maria del Fiore and it is said that a dead Elm burst into life after his body touched it whilst being taken to its final resting place. Other miracles have been attributed to him including the resurrection of the dead but unfortunately, the relevant paperwork could not be completed in time for a recreation and so, “Miracle Plan B “(in the form of the tree you can see in the video) went ahead instead.

Yup – the blooming tree miracle happened Jan 26th. Wonder why his feast day is in May?
    Nice work on the videos!
